Hi Mike....I would love to know how the totals are figured?....because I stuck a ruler in one area of my driveway and came up with 6.5 inches yet in another area of the same driveway, 10.5 inches....and on my deck railing there's a good 10 inches....I am in the Cold Harbor area of Mechanicsville.
Janet,
Thanks for the question! The observations I have posted are from National Weather Service spotters. Measuring snow is not an easy task. Ideally you have a flat surface that does not produce heat. Decks usually provide an artificially high reading. The easiest thing to do is measure in different parts of the yard and then take the average. Here's a link to a good reference from the National Weather Service on "tips for measuring snow": http://www.crh.noaa.gov/dvn/?n=snowmeasure
Hey Mike,
I got 10.0 Inches here, but it was very had to measure becuse of the snow drifts, i had some areas that was much higher than that.
Thanks Mike! Janet
